Since Dr. Berner has decided to retire this year
He has temporarily stalled his outstanding career.
His talents and ability were discovered by his faculty staff
So he graduated high school at the age of fourteen and a half.
Then on to college with classes at night and on Saturdays too
With a Bachelors, Masters and Doctors Degree his ability grew.
Called to active duty with the U.S. Navy gave him no fears
Was promoted from Apprentice Seaman to Lieutenant Commander in 6.5 years.
As a line officer on a fighting heavy cruiser's convoy duty he entered the fray
In convoy battles in the Arctic Ocean operating off Iceland and Norway.
As commanding officer on the LST 317 in the North African campaign
He demonstrated his ability again and again.
With several military commendations and a number of battle stars too
He won the respect and admiration of his very efficient crew.
In 1946 with the Veterans Administration his loyal service began
At Kingsbridge, West Haven and Castle Point he helped many a man.
As Chief of Counseling Psychology in West Haven since 1961
His rehabilitative service to handicapped veterans is second to none.
Restoring hospitalized veterans to productive citizens in the community
His many professional memberships and as chairman of committees galore
Take up lots of time in working with the handicapped and many more.
Now with 30 years of demanding VA work and his real dedication
He is heeding the call of home at Beacon, NY and a real vacation.
His ability, willing help, sound advice, and warm, friendly smile
Will always be golden memories in one's friendship file.
His hearty laugh and good humor always dispel all tension and strain
And keep one's good health from going down the drain.
As a golfer, he is fine hits them straight and true
And uses his putter like a professional is supposed to do.
He needs more time to relax and dream as a good retiree is supposed to do
Recalling only the pleasant times with friends tried and true.
We all wish you many years of good health and happiness too
With success and recognition in everything you choose to do.
